BFPI is a student-run organisation dedicated to connecting students who are curious about the intersection of global affairs and policy-making and empowering them to grow, contribute, and lead in international affairs. By instilling empathy, creativity, and responsibility, we aim to develop the next generation of leaders who shape international policy and foster global cooperation in an increasingly complex world.
BFPI is fully student-governed and operates independently. While the organization may collaborate with academic departments or external experts for educational programming, such relationships are optional and non-governing.
To connect students who are curious about the intersection of global affairs and policy-making, and empower them to grow, contribute, and lead in international affairs.
To prepare students for careers in foreign policy by providing hands-on experience through student-led think tank research, consulting projects, and professional development events with professionals and alumni in the field.
BFPI collaborates with partners to tackle foreign policy issues by producing policy briefs, reports, and other relevant documents based on student research and analysis. The Consulting division works in partnership with private, government, intergovernmental, and nonprofit institutions to produce client-oriented research and documents, while the Policy Lab researches, writes, and publishes papers on significant issues in foreign policy.
Events hosted by BFPI include talks, panels, and guest lectures that bring former ambassadors, politicians, geopolitical strategists, and other experts to campus to educate the Brown community about geopolitical, foreign policy, and security issues. Trips give members the opportunity to visit governmental institutions, embassies, think tanks, and conferences, helping them understand first-hand the actors that shape global policy.
Beyond research and consulting, BFPI members take part in visits to consulates and embassies throughout the year, and our yearly New York trip, where we visit think tanks and meet with practitioners shaping global policy.
